Suffolk’s Krisna Mahendran claims 3rd straight Player of the Week

SYRACUSE, NY – Suffolk freshman Krisna Mahendran (Katy, TX/Seven Lakes) has been selected the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.

The NWGC announced the honor from its office in Syracuse, N.Y., on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for events held Oct. 7-13. She was named the NWGC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 11.

Mahendran captured the 2024 NWGC Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12, by recording a 10-over-par 80 at the Mohawk River Country Club in Rexford, N.Y. She edged out Nazareth's Kayla Ringler, and Cortland teammates Mimi Rienzo and Gina Milazzo, by a single stroke to win her second individual championship of the weekend.

The Par 70 course covered 5445 yards and featured 45 players competing for 10 different teams. Suffolk finished second at the invitational, six strokes behind Cortland which claimed the team title.

On Friday, Oct. 11, Mahendran was one of three players to share first place at the NWGC Fall Classic. The event was held on the red and white tees at Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park, N.Y. The Par 72 course covered 5600 yards.

Mahendran, Milazzo and Suffolk's Brooke Bugajewski each fired an eight-over-par 80 to share the individual title. Mahendran and Bugajewski led the Rams to the team title with a +41 – eight strokes ahead of runner-up Cortland.
